Our Privacy Philosophy
Clearwater helps you capture and organize your thinking through financial discernment. Your financial reflections and spending patterns are deeply personal—we've designed the app to keep them that way.
Information We Collect
Your Data: Financial reflections and raw transaction data you create in Clearwater are stored locally on your device — we cannot access them. On the Premium tier, an anonymized pattern summary (not individual transactions or amounts) may be transmitted off-device, and only with your explicit consent, as described in "Third-party AI processing" below.
Account Information: If you create an account for sync or backup, we collect your email address.
Usage Analytics: We collect anonymous usage statistics (feature usage, app stability) to improve Clearwater. This data cannot identify you or reveal your reflection content.
How We Use Your Information

- Send service-related communications
Third-party AI processing
Clearwater's Premium tier sends an anonymized pattern summary to Anthropic's Claude through a Continuity Labs-operated proxy so it can generate a single attention question for you. Anthropic does not train models on this data. Free tier does not transmit anything to Anthropic.
What we send to Anthropic's Claude:
- Want and Need counts (numbers only)
- Peak Want time and day (e.g. "evening", "friday")
- Frequent purchase-type words (e.g. "coffee")
- Daily-use streak length
What we do NOT send:
- Transaction amounts
- Full transaction descriptions or store names
- Voice audio or receipt images
- Contacts, calendar, or location
Premium users can revoke consent in Settings → Privacy → Anthropic Claude in the Clearwater app, which exposes an "Allow Anthropic Claude" toggle. Revoking turns off the attention-question feature; all other Clearwater features keep working on-device.
What We Don't Do
- Read your financial reflections
- Use your financial data to train AI models
- Sell your data to third parties
- Share your information for advertising
Analytics & Your Consent
When you first use Clearwater, we ask if you'd like to share anonymous usage data. This is entirely optional.
If you consent, we collect:
- Which features you use
- How often you complete sorting sessions
- App crashes and error reports
- Device type and iOS version
We never collect, even with consent:
- Your transaction amounts
- What you buy or where you shop
- Your Need/Want classifications
- Your surcharge or Huquq amounts
- Voice recordings or receipt images
You can change your analytics preference anytime in Settings → Privacy.
Data Retention
Anonymous analytics data is retained for 24 months to identify trends and improve the app, then automatically deleted. Your on-device data remains until you delete it.
Your Rights
You can export or delete your data at any time within the app. For account-related requests, contact support@continuitylabs.ai.
